Shade Carriers and Shade Adaptors
Shade carriers and shade adapters are products designed for lampshades so they are able to fit onto table lamps or pendants. Some lampshades have a continental fitting which are much larger then the traditional UK version so require a shade adapter, which in most cases is a small circular, metal plate that sits on the fitting to bring the size down. A simple design that saves buying a whole new lampshade.
Shade carriers sit onto table lamps and act as a cradle, so that a lampshade can simply sit on top of it. There are various sizes to choose from depending on the size of your lampshade.
Not all lampshades require a shade carrier. Some have the correct fitment already on the frame, so just go straight onto the table lamp. Always ask for advice if you're unsure before deciding which type suits your needs.
Lamp Shade Spiders and Carrier Adapters
There are a number of different types of fittings on lampshades, some have a 40mm mounting hole, some smaller and some have a fitting which is known as a duplex fitting.
Those with a duplex fitting require an adapter, also known as a shade carrier, before you can use them on your table or floor lamps. Those with a duplex fitting that are intended for hanging from a ceiling pendant may require an adapter commonly known as a spider.
