Lighting Options and Influences from Far and Wide
Posted By: Matthew
It is fair to say that lighting can be one of the most important components in your home. Indeed, poor interior light options can create ugly shadows, warp colour schemes, and dim your view of a room's focal points. Complimentary light solutions on the other hand can emphasise your home’s best features and make rooms feel warm, engaging and inviting.
Of course, choosing complimentary light fittings and fixtures is not an exact science. After all, an indoor lighting scheme that looks attractive at a friend’s house may look nowhere near as good in your own home.
Fortunately, there are plenty of domestic light products available these days so even if you are unsure about what your own home’s perfect solution might be; you can take solace in the fact that it is definitely out there somewhere. When looking for suitable light fixtures and fittings for your home, it can often be worthwhile to think outside of the box. Indeed, whilst traditional and contemporary light options are perennially popular, they are certainly not the only options available.
Broaden your horizons with lighting options and influences from a little further afield
Japan
Traditional Japanese lighting is all about strong lines and varied light strength. Japanese light products are widely available so you will find it easy to pick up anything from round paper lanterns (which are made to fit over existing fixtures) to glass box-style lights. If you are after an all together more charming effect than you could buy a Japanese Shoji screen and place it in front of a bright floor lamp to create a slightly more intimate feel.
Africa
African style lamps often have coloured glass which is able to create a very unique effect. Indeed, these light options are very evocative and exotic so they are a particularly good outdoor lighting option. Certainly, if you’re looking to evoke a feeling of adventure on your veranda or patio in the evening, then African-style coloured lamps are the perfect choice!
Middle-East
Egyptian/Moroccan-style lamps provide a very ethnic effect as the detailed metal covers with their tiered levels resonate with beautiful indigenous charm. Their gentle hues compliment almost all decors so they are functional items as well as excellent showpieces.
Of course, you don’t always have to throw your net too far and wide to find something a little bit different
Indeed, old-world British lamps made of rough metals are stylish and playful so they can give your home an elegant yet slightly eccentric feel. Certainly, their moody glow is perfect for an evening of playing ‘Cluedo’ or watching ‘Sherlock Holmes’!
Without doubt, mixing up your decor with light options and influences from other cultures can not only change the mood of an area, it can also help to make your home as a whole far more fun and interesting.
