Effective Lighting Solutions for Your Child's Bedroom
Posted By: Matthew
Your child's bedroom needs to be a place that is comfortable and fun - a place where your child can feel relaxed, play and indulge their imagination. However, lighting the room so that it will be able fulfil all of these criteria is no easy task.
Now, you may think the opposite is true. Indeed, you may well believe that all you need to do is go out and get a lampshade and bedside lamp with your son or daughter's favourite TV character/football team on and all will be well!
Maybe. Maybe not
The truth is that sorting out the interior lighting for your child's room provides you with a great opportunity to bond with your son or daughter; encourage them to be creative, and of course, indulge your own playful side! Indeed, this task will allow you and your child to throw around a whole bunch of imaginative ideas and work out what the most suitable options will be between you.
As with any other room in your home, you will need to consider three main types of lighting for your child's room
Ambient light (which fills the whole room); task light (which illuminates a particular area), and accent light (which adds a decorative touch). Using these three light options in layers will help you to create the perfect atmosphere for your child.
It is relatively easy to work out which type of light will be needed in your child's room - all you need to do is ask them what activities they do and whereabouts they normally do them. However, there may well be some aspects that neither you nor your child will consider from the outset.
Fortunately, we here at The Lighting Superstore are aware of some of the more obscure concerns that can crop up when sorting out the interior light fittings for a child's bedroom. Here are some things which you would do well to consider during this process.
If your child has a desk in their room for homework then it needs to be adequately lit with some kind of task light
This light should shine directly onto the place of work and be placed on the opposite side of your child's writing hand, as this will help to stop shadows from appearing over their work area.
Computers
Like all modern kids, your child will most likely have a computer in their room somewhere. It is important that emitted light is prevented from directly hitting the monitor screen. If it does, it will create extra glare and cause your child to suffer eyestrain and headaches.
Reading
If your child does not have a specific place for reading then ensure they have an adjustable light available. This type of light can be moved and positioned anywhere around the room; therefore your child will never be discouraged from reading.
Bear these aspects in mind and you will surely create a well lit room that your child will love spending time in!
